Attorney Hannah Smet earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in History and Gender & Women’s Studies, as well as a minor in African Studies. Upon graduation, she attended William Mitchell College of Law (now known as Mitchell Hamline), where she worked as an intern with the Dakota County Child Support Agency, as well as served as a volunteer through the Family Law Clinic. Attorney Smet earned her Juris Doctor degree in December of 2015, and shortly thereafter began her practice in the Fox Valley.
While completing her law degree, Attorney Smet began her career locally as an intern at a general practice law office in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and later as an Associate Attorney handling a diverse caseload including Landlord/Tenant, Real Estate, and Family Law. Immediately, Attorney Smet gravitated toward her Family Law cases and clients, realizing her passion lies in serving clients going through the difficult process of divorce. Since 2020, Attorney Smet has shifted her practice to solely focus on Family Law matters, from mediation to trial litigation, and everything in between.
There are different types of family law cases, and each one is unique because every family and situation is different. Hannah tailors her services to best fit your family and your case. Some of the most common cases are detailed below:
Divorce can cover a variety of topics including property division, child custody, child support, and alimony. Whether you and the other party can't agree on anything or you are amenable to figuring things out together, having an attorney at your back protects your future.
When unmarried parents separate and have to figure out child custody and placement, the first step is establishing paternity. Then, they determine who can make decisions for the children and where they live day-to-day. Hannah knows the impact these decisions have, so she is ready to fight for your family to get the future you want and deserve.
Two years after the last custody and placement order or if a substantial change occurs, orders can be modified. Or, when someone is not following the orders to enough of a degree, you can file to enforce them. Orders are rarely perfect, and families change with time. Hannah knows the intricacies of these cases and can tell you when the court is most likely to rule in your favor.
